I help international professional services firms in primarily governmental relations achieve important client development objectives via the conduct of often complex cross-border business development initiatives — and the production and deployment of sophisticated research-driven written content supporting them.
I began my career serving as a writer to President George HW Bush in The White House and went on to serve in senior staff roles in the California Legislature, where my focus included legislative drafting and media communications.
I later worked as an aide to former British Foreign Secretary & EU Negotiator for the Former Yugoslavia David Owen, where I drafted & edited semi-scholarly publications and media relations materials during the campaign in support of the UK’s continued presence in the EU, while remaining outside the Euro currency zone.
I then began a focus on business development and communications for international professional services firms specializing in governmental relations and public affairs, legal services, and middle market-focused investment banking services. Most notably, I established and directed an EU-focused business development initiative for US AmLaw 100 law firm Patton Boggs LLP, where I helped the firm identify, pursue and capture new business from sovereign governments, multinational companies, private equity funds, trade associations, and startups in the EU, Eastern Europe, the MENA region, Central Asia and East Asia.
Throughout my career I’ve regularly written about international business strategies for publications including the Wall Street Journal Europe, The Lawyer, The European Journal, Asian Legal Business, Axial Market, Marketing in Asia, Legal Business World, and Remaking Law Firms. And I’ve regularly provided in-person insights to organizations including Bloomberg BigLaw, The World Bank, Clyde & Co, LawWiser, The American Club of Paris, and LexMundi, among others.
In 2014 I authored: A Comprehensive Guide to the Asia-Pacific Legal Markets & in 2021 I co-authored: Thriving in a Multi-Generational Law Firm: How to Increase Communication and Collaboration Among Lawyers. I also edit & publish Asia Law Portal, a blog and social media channels focused primarily on the business of law in the Asia-Pacific region.
I’m a graduate of Google Squared Online Marketing Leadership Course, hold a Certificate in EU Studies from Sciences Po in Paris, a Juris Doctor from the University of San Diego School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Loyola Marymount University.
I have been an active member of the District of Columbia Bar for more than 25 years.
